Room by Room: Guest Bathroom

Another small room, another opportunity to use red! This bathroom is only 9' x 4' and with the tile wainscot, the red doesn't overwhelm.

A bigger design challenge was the limited width of the bathroom. Most full bathrooms are at least 5' across to accommodate a standard size bathtub. Also, many building codes require a minimum 20 - 21 inch clearance in front of the toilet. To maximize the feeling of space, I used a wall-mounted toilet with the tank inside the wall. The washbasin is also streamlined with the faucet mounted on the wall and an open polished chrome metal stand. Carrying the same floor tile into the shower and using a frameless glass shower door helps the room feel larger.

And just for fun, I replaced the standard-issue metal knob on the medicine cabinet with a whimsical mahjong tile-turned knob.
